FILM SCHOOLThe Film School, the nineteenth specialized college of Tongji University that offers undergraduate programs, was jointly established by Tongji University, Shanghai Film Studio and Shanghai Film Investment and Management Co. Ltd. in August 16, 2003 to meet the social needs for developing a Chinese film industry. Based on the academic strength of Tongji University, the creativity of Shanghai Film Studio and the market resources of Shanghai Film Investment and Management Co. Ltd, the Film School has a solid base for development through with Shanghai Film Studio and Shanghai Film Investment and Management Co. Ltd. The Film School will carry forward Tongji's academic tradition of practicality and preciseness while adopting the education concept of combining art and technology, education and practice. Based in Shanghai, the School will serve the whole country and gradually will gain leadership in the field of cinematography. On the one hand it will keep pace with the world trend of movie technology, absorb the essence of national art, and create a modern and innovative atmosphere; on the other hand, the School will commit itself to the cultivation of international movie artists, with comprehensive cinematographic knowledge and technology, experts in movie technology and entrepreneurs in the movie industry. The Film School offers three undergraduate programs. Its teaching base is in Tongji University with an internship training base in Shanghai Film Studio. Huang Shuqing, a famous Chinese film director, is Dean of the school, while Wu Yigong, Sun Daoling, Zhang Ruifang, Qing Yi, Xie Jin, Pan Hong, a group of well-known film artists and theorists, are artistic consultants. Besides offering multidisciplinary and professional teaching, the School also has many experienced artists in script writing, directing, acting, painting, cinematography, sound track recording and editing. The School is actively expanding its research scope, applying for the authorization for offering the master's degree programs ill film, and establishing an institute of film studies. To supplement the classroom teaching, the School will initiate related activities such as publishing film magazines, holding film festivals, and establishing video websites. By exploring different techniques and modes of teaching, thereby integrating theory with practice, the School strives to cultivate wholesome entertainment in accordance with developing social needs. |
